The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded to promote education and public awareness of the Chesapeake Bay’s maritime heritage and encourage the preservation and improvement of the Chesapeake’s natural resources.
The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR) is dedicated to local giving to foster local involvement. Each year the steering committees in Norfolk, VA and Baltimore, MD seek out organizations to partner with which share our mission. By working together locally, we all benefit in immediate ways.
At the conclusion of the festivities and a challenging 118 mile race down the Bay, net entry fees and private donations are combined to support local non-profit organizations chosen by the steering committees in both Maryland and Virginia.
To date we have raised over $241,000 to support restoration efforts, maritime heritage, and education programs throughout the Chesapeake Bay.
