2019’s Photo Contest has not been determined. Stay tuned!
2018: We are looking for wonderful images to use for promotions of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR) specifically: originality, creative use of subject matter, and of course, how good they are for promotional use! You can submit images from 2018, or from past years. We reserve the right to use submitted photos in both print and web publications regardless of whether the entry was a winner of the Grand Prize.
Criterion for this Year’s contest.
- showing off the mission of the Schooner Race with images of two or more boats or people
- showing off the beauty of the Schooner Race
- the day-to-day life and times during the Schooner Race
- able to use for promotions on the Schooner Race website, Facebook page, and more
- Images can be from this year or any past race
- While all images will be accepted, only those which conform to our theme will be considered for this contest
- Contestants may submit up to five (5) images
- Winners will receive a $250 prize
So, we hope you snapped away on your race down the bay and during our events. We’d love your help. We need your help.
The deadline for 2018 submissions is November 15th.
Submitted photos will be posted to the 2018 Contest page every few days through the end of the submission period.
Upon submission of this form, the GCBSR retains all publication rights for all submitted photographs. No payment for use of winning photographs will be made in addition to the stated prize. GCBSR Board Members and their immediate families are not eligible to enter. For more details, see our Photo Contest Entry Rules above. By submitting my entry, I confirm that I took the photograph, that I am the sole owner of the photograph, that I received verbal consent from all individuals depicted in the photograph prior to my taking the photograph (or received no objection from the individual(s), who was clearly aware that I was taking the photograph), that I have no reason to believe that the individual(s) would have any objection to my submission of the photograph into this photo contest nor to GCBSR’s use of it as stated in the “Entry Rules.”
Judges for the 2018 Photo Contest
This year, we have asked 3 professional photographers who have experience shooting sailboats and sailboat races to act as our judges. These are the three who have graciously accepted:
As a professional photographer, Richard Sherman captures the peace and tranquility in his imagery through clean, uncluttered composition. His work is primarily focused on nature and nautical images that range from serene landscapes and seascapes to dramatic sailing images and beautiful color abstracts. Working in both color and black and white, he makes attentive use of space and natural light and considers himself a “geometric” photographer.
Sarah Hood Salomon
Sarah Hood Salomon is a fine art photographer whose work explores the emotional aspects of the world around her. Her award-winning work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows. She is a photography judge, curator, educator, and author. Sarah is represented by the Waverly Street Gallery in Bethesda, MD and Multiple Exposures Gallery in Alexandria, VA.
Doug Coulson, Photographer B.A.: Dartmouth, Religion and Philosophy M.S. and Ph.D.: University of Massachusetts, Psychology and Statistics With a good eye and technical skill. Doug works quickly, unobtrusively and with friendly intent to get relaxed portraits, group shots and candids. As an accomplished nature photographer, he brings insight and vision to the world around us; sometimes with surprising results. His byline is "I get shots that last!"
